Gallbladder disease varies from functional disorders to inflammation, local and systemic complications related to stone disease, involvement in other systemic disease, and one of the most aggressive cancers related to the digestive tract.

Gallstones affect nearly a tenth of the population in North India, mostly women (odds ratio 4:1 in some studies). Literature states that upto 15% of these people end up becoming symptomatic in their lifetime. However, recent studies have shown that these data do not apply to the Indian population, and the prevalence of complications may be much higher. Complications range from simple cholecystitis to empyema gallbladder, where pus may collect within the gallbladder, sometimes leading to perforation and fistulization into other organs.

Gallbladder gangrene and perforation are being increasingly reported in the elderly, in the midst of Covid-19 infection. Other complications can be jaundice due to slippage of stones downstream into the biliary tree, and acute pancreatitis, which in itself, is a life-threatening condition.

Gallbladder polyp, porcelain gallbladder and stones larger than 1cm have been associated with an increased risk of developing cancer of the gallbladder, while multiple small stones are a recipe for jaundice and pancreatitis, should they slip down the CBD. Gallbladder cancer, once diagnosed, is rather difficult to treat, and hence, prevention of this disease by removing a diseased gall bladder seems to be the best recourse at the moment.

At Pelvinic, our expert team of surgeons will assess your disease profile and suggest the best course of action. We specialize in standard as well as reduced port cholecystectomies, laparoscopic CBD explorations, complicated resections and re-do surgeries including restoration of CBD continuity post-injury during an earlier surgery, all done with the comfort of minimal access techniques. Our centres are equipped with endoscopic suites and hybrid procedures can render difficult laparoscopic surgeries feasible.

We shall take all precautions to make sure your stay in the hospital would be as short and sweet as possible (including Day surgery and early discharge protocols). So get in touch with the team at Pelvinic, without further delay, so that the best laparoscopic teams can help you get rid of this problem for good!!!
